1. The Application Process
You must be awarded both an NROTC Scholarship and be accepted through Tri-Campus Admissions to join our Battalion of Midshipmen — the two processes run independently of one another, so neither guarantees the other.
Prospective students should begin the scholarship application process during their junior year of high school. Applicants with strong packages should consider applying Early Action to their respective academic institution.
Both Navy Option and Marine Option applicants complete the same NROTC application. Visit the Apply Now Page for full program requirements.
2. Major Tiers
The Navy is preparing its officer corps to meet the unique and ever-changing challenges of the future. To structure our academic programs around that goal, undergraduate majors for NROTC Navy Option midshipmen are divided into three tiers.
Engineering programs of Navy interest.
Other engineering, math, and science programs.
Foreign language and all remaining academic programs.
To keep pace in this high-tech, diverse environment, approximately 85% of Navy Option NROTC scholarship offers go to students interested in completing a Tier 1 or Tier 2 major. Students interested in Tier 3 majors are still encouraged to apply, and may also consider applying as a Marine Option.
See the full list of majors and their associated tiers across the Tri-Campus academic institutions below.
