
LCDR Matthew S. Desrosiers, USN
Lieutenant Commander Matthew S. Desrosiers grew up in Pomfret, Connecticut. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Ocean Engineering.
After commissioning, LCDR Desrosiers reported immediately to Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training, graduating in 2013 with Class 297. Following BUD/S and SEAL Qualification Training, LCDR Desrosiers attended Naval Special Warfare’s Foreign Language Program qualifying in Modern Standard Arabic.
LCDR Desrosiers’ first operational assignment was SEAL Team TWO from 2014 to 2016, where he deployed to Special Operations Command Forward-East Africa, supporting and augmenting elements in Uganda, Ethiopia, and Somalia, with follow-on assignment as Platoon Assistant Officer-in-Charge, deploying to El Salvador as Naval Special Warfare Task Element Commander.
He was then assigned to Special Reconnaissance Team TWO from 2016 to 2018, where he attended the Advanced Special Operations Techniques Course and served as a Special Reconnaissance Platoon Commander, deploying to the Horn of Africa. He subsequently returned to SEAL Team TWO from 2018 to 2024 where he served as Platoon Commander, deploying to Slovenia, Montenegro, Germany, Italy, and Norway, with following assignments as Troop Commander and Operations Officer, deploying twice to Special Operations Task Force – East Africa (SOTF-EA) as Naval Special Warfare Task Unit-North Commander and as the SOTF-EA J3, Director of Operations.
LCDR Desrosiers is currently serving as Assistant Professor of Naval Science at Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps Unit, University of Notre Dame.
LCDR Desrosiers completed his Joint Professional Military Education Phase 1 certification in 2020 from the U.S. Naval War College and is a current Global Executive Masters of Business Administration candidate (Class of 2027) in the Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame.
LCDR Desrosiers’ has received various personal, unit, and campaign awards, including the Joint Service Commendation Medal with Combat “C”, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3), Navy Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Battle Efficiency Award, and Meritorious Unit Commendation.
LCDR Desrosiers is married to the former Morgan Bissell of Grand Rapids, Michigan. They have two daughters, Anna and Lydia.
